Simple Roth is a calculator designed to help you determine the maximum Roth IRA conversion you can execute before exceeding your target federal tax bracket. It also estimates the federal and state (CA only for now) tax impact of that conversion.
What it is: A tool that gets you reasonably close to a tax-efficient conversion number if you have a good working knowledge of your financial situation.
What it is not: A primer on Roth IRAs or an app that builds a sophisticated multi-year conversion strategy. And, of course, it's not a resource that should be taken in any way, shape, or form as professional financial or tax advice!
Yes! Simple Roth is built on a private-by-design architecture: All calcs happen directly in your browser. No tax settings or income numbers are sent to a server or shared with third parties. Some cookies are dropped for site security and analytics.
By combining ordinary income, preferred income, NIIT, state tax (CA only), and IRMAA premium cliffs, Simple Roth attempts to provide the real marginal cost of your conversion.

There are a wicked number of arcane IRA and income tax rules by state, so to build the logic and an automatic update engine is a challenge. This is a hobby site, but I'll try to add more as I find the time.
I spent 40 years in tech, and one of my retired guy hobbies is building apps that I — and a few others — might find useful.
I don't give out my name because, though most people are perfectly lovely, there are enough wackadoos out there that I'd rather not engage. ☮️
Thank you for reaching out. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
Sorry, Simple Roth is optimized for a laptop or external monitor.
